MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 23, 2018 – Science from Scientists, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and inspiring children to solve real-world problems by improving literacy in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) has been selected as one of three finalists for the Minnesota High Tech Association 2018 Tekne Awards in the STEM Workforce Development category. For the past two decades, the Tekne Awards have recognized organizations that are leading-edge innovators in science and technology in Minnesota. The 2018 Tekne Awards ceremony on Thursday, November 29 will reveal winners among the finalists in 16 categories.
Science from Scientists is a finalist due to their innovation in the field of STEM enrichment education; they bring today’s STEM workforce into 3rd– through 8th-grade classrooms throughout Minnesota to teach leading-edge science and technology programs with the ultimate goal of substantially increasing the number of students pursuing STEM careers and trades in the future.
“Our goal has always been to get our nation’s youth excited about STEM and to shine light on how important the industry is, so, to be recognized by the Minnesota High Tech Association, is an honor,” says Erika Angle, CEO of Science from Scientists. “Being named a finalist helps raise awareness of our mission and helps us continue to inspire more children to explore careers in STEM.”

Science from Scientists works with and within the existing education system to measurably improve student aptitude and attitude towards STEM and to provide as many students as possible access to STEM role models at ages – elementary and middle school – when students of all backgrounds are deciding what they want to be when they grow up. Science from Scientists expanded their services to Minnesota in 2016 and, this year alone, will deliver programming to more than 1,400 students in 16 schools. Science from Scientists’ during-school program could serve as a platform for communities across Minnesota to create their own community-based STEM enrichment solutions, in which we provide proven curriculum, students meet real STEM tradespeople and professionals working in their communities, and local businesses grow their own workforce.
