“In order to get an accurate sense for what scientists do you have to find a summer program or other hands-on research opportunity that allows you to work in a lab. School experiences are not the same as actual hands-on lab experiences. However, it is still very important to study the traditional material in school because the material you learn is the foundation of your scientific knowledge. Without that foundation it is very difficult to innovate above and beyond.”
